United Nations: More than five million people displaced by war in Sudan
On Wednesday, September 6, the United Nations Migration Agency announced that more than five million people have been displaced due to several months of conflict in Sudan.
According to the Associated Press, conflicts between the country’s army and rival militias still rage and show no sign of abating.
International efforts to mediate in this conflict have failed so far and at least 9 ceasefire agreements have been violated.
According to the UN Migration Agency, more than four million Sudanese have been internally displaced since the start of the civil conflict in mid-April, and 1.1 million have fled to neighboring countries.
Human rights groups and the United Nations report that in the western Darfur region, conflicts have turned into ethnic violence.
These new statistics are published after UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, had already warned that 14 million Sudanese children are in urgent need of humanitarian support due to the deadly conflict in Sudan, which is deepening the hunger crisis in this country.
