Pakistan sees 83% increase in terrorist attacks in August, says PICSS

With an 83% increase in terrorist attacks in Pakistan, August has been the most violent month in the last 9 years in this country.

This month, Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) has recorded 99 terrorist incidents that have resulted in the death of 112 people and the injury of 87 civilians.

According to the PICSS report, terrorist attacks in August increased by 83 percent compared to July, reaching the highest number of terrorist attacks recorded in a month in Pakistan since 2014.

The institute also mentions that, compared to July, figures in August increased by 65% in Baluchistan province, by 106% in tribal areas, and by 83% in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The Islamabad-based think tank recorded 54 cases of terrorist attacks in Pakistan in July.

The report also states that, over the first eight months of this year, Pakistan has witnessed 22 suicide attacks that have killed 227 people and injured 497.

After the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, the Pakistani media has always reported on the increase in violence in Pakistan, with the main cause of violence identified to be the Pro-Taliban group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
