Pakistan: Suicide attack on security convoy kills nine soldiers, wounds five others
Pakistan’s army confirmed the death of nine soldiers and the wounding of five others in a suicide attack that targeted a security convoy on Thursday in the northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province’s Bannu district.
The army’s media wing said that “A motorcycle borne suicide bomber exploded himself” about 61km (37 miles) from the border with Afghanistan.”
Pakistan’s volatile northwest, bordering Afghanistan, has witnessed a rise in attacks over the last year due to the active existence of militant groups.
It should be mentioned that more than 60 people were killed last month in a suicide bombing that targeted a political gathering.
As of last January, a suicide bomber – said to be linked with Tehreek–e–Taliban Pakistan (TTP) – blew himself up in a mosque inside a police compound in the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing more than 80 officers.
