EU’s climate body names July 2023 hottest month in recorded history
The European Union’s Copernicus Climate Observatory announced on Tuesday, August 8, that July 2023 was the “hottest month” on record worldwide.
According to the monthly report of this center on climate change, the air temperature last July exceeded the temperature of the “hottest month” recorded in July 2019 by about 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Many parts of the Northern Hemisphere have experienced heat waves, with temperatures in most regions of Antarctica being much higher than average, the report adds.
Also, last month, the global average sea surface temperature reached an unprecedented record.
The air temperature in the North Sea was recorded 1.5 degrees Celsius above the average.
Similarly, up to June, the daily Antarctic Sea ice extent remained significantly below previously observed values for that time of year throughout the month.
