Eid Al Ghadeer

Ghadir is not just a specific historical event, rather it is the occasion that determined the destiny of all human beings throughout history.

In the Shia hadiths, titles such as Eid-ullah al-Akbar, which means the greatest divine Eid, Eid of the Household of Muhammad, and Ashraf al-Ayad, which means the highest Eid, have been used to describe this day.

Shiites around the world celebrate this day, and hold various ceremonies to commemorate it, especially in recent centuries as one of the main symbols of Shiism

The incident of Ghadir Khum is one of the most important events in the history of Islam, which occurred on the 18th of Dhul-Hijjah, 10 A.H. On this day, the Prophet of Islam, peace be upon him and his pure family, introduced Imam Ali, peace be upon him, as the guardian of the Ummah and his successor, and everyone present pledged allegiance to Imam Ali (peace be upon Him).

According to verse 67 of Surah Ma’idah, which is known as the verse of preaching, the Prophet of God received a Divine mission to convey to the people what God has ordered, and if he does not do this he has not fulfilled his mission.

This historical event happened when the Holy Prophet was returning from his last Hajj, which is known as Hajjat al-Wada’a in a place called Ghadeer Khum.

According to narrations, the Messenger of God gathered all the people in Ghadir Khum, whose number ranged from 90,000 to 124,000 people, and raised the hand of Ali ibn Abi-Talib (peace be upon him) so that everyone could see him and said: O people, Do I not have more authority over you than you yourselves? The people replied: “Yes, O Messenger of God.” Then the Prophet said: God Almighty is my guardian and I am the guardian of the believers and I have more authority over them than they themselves, so whoever I am his master, then Ali is his master.

The Messenger of God repeated this sentence three times.

Then he addressed the people and said those who are present should convey this message to those who are absent.

It should be noted that the incident of Ghadeer has been repeatedly mentioned in all Shia books and in the famous books of the Sunnis, and numerous works have been written about this important event by scholars, writers and poets. One of the most important and famous works is the book of al-Ghadeer by Allama Abdul Hossein Amini (may Allah bless his soul)
