UN Warns of Escalating War in Yemen as More Than 200,000 People Displaced
—————————
The United Nations has warned that escalating fighting across Yemen threatens to widen the conflict, deepen regional instability and worsen the humanitarian crisis. More than 200,000 people have been displaced inside the country since early August, marking the highest level of new displacement since the 2022 truce.
UN officials reported that at least 46 civilians have been killed and more than 130 injured since the escalation began. Around 4,000 others have fled across the Bab al-Mandab Strait to Djibouti and Somalia. The UN and its partners have provided emergency assistance to more than 131,000 people affected by the fighting.
The UN has called on all parties to protect civilians, allow unhindered humanitarian access and resume serious political negotiations. It also urged the unconditional release of 72 UN staff members still detained by Ansar Allah, warning that continued hostilities could trigger further displacement and suffering.
