UN Appeals for Funding to Support Millions of Children Deprived of Education

The disruption of education for millions of children and adolescents in conflict- and crisis-affected regions has emerged as one of the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges, threatening their future and fundamental right to learn.

The United Nations has warned that 258 million children and adolescents worldwide are currently experiencing disruptions to their education as a result of various crises, according to a report by Reuters.

The UN’s Education Cannot Wait (ECW) global fund for education in emergencies has launched a campaign titled “Hope Starts Here,” calling for $600 million in funding to support 10 million crisis-affected children between 2027 and 2030.

The initiative highlights the urgent need to address persistent challenges facing education systems in crisis zones and ensure that children affected by conflict and other emergencies can continue their education.

The UN stressed that protecting access to education is essential not only for children’s intellectual development and future opportunities, but also for safeguarding their dignity and fundamental rights during times of crisis.
