Mourning Ceremonies Mark Martyrdom Anniversary of Imam Sajjad in Karbala, Babylon, Lahore

Shia communities in Iraq and Pakistan held mourning ceremonies to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali ibn al-Hussein Zain al-Abidin, peace be upon him, on the 25th of Muharram.
In Lahore, Pakistan, thousands of mourners took part in a large Sajjadi procession that began on the 20th of Muharram and continued for five days. Participants carried a symbolic coffin of Imam Sajjad, peace be upon him, through the city’s streets while reciting elegies and Husseini poems. The procession concluded with mourning gatherings recalling the Imam’s suffering after the tragedy of Karbala and his role, alongside Lady Zainab, peace be upon her, in preserving the message of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.
In Iraq’s Babylon province, the administration of the shrine of Zaid al-Shahid, peace be upon him, organized mourning reenactments in cooperation with Ansar al-Hawra Foundation from Al-Mishkhab. The performances depicted aspects of the hardships endured by Imam Sajjad, peace be upon him, after Karbala, amid wide participation from visitors, mourners, and Husseini processions.
In holy Karbala, mourning processions arrived at the shrines of Imam Hussein and his brother Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas, peace be upon them. The processions passed through the area between the two holy shrines before holding mourning gatherings in the holy courtyard of Imam Hussein, where elegies recalled Imam Sajjad’s patience, suffering, and efforts to protect the teachings of Ahlulbayt, peace be upon them.
