Increase in Violence, Killings, Arrests and Disappearances Reported in Afghanistan under Taliban Rule

Local sources in several Afghan provinces are reporting a rise in violent incidents including killings, arrests and unexplained disappearances, sparking widespread concern among the population. Reports gathered from provincial areas by independent outlets describe an escalation in insecurity as everyday life becomes increasingly unstable.
In Badakhshan province, a 12‑year‑old girl was mysteriously killed by unknown assailants, according to regional sources. Earlier reports from Afghanistan’s Logar province also indicated that four members of a family, including a woman, were shot dead in the Hisarak area of Pul‑e‑Alam by unidentified individuals, highlighting the varied and unpredictable nature of the violence.
Additional reports from the Panjshir region indicate that a former military serviceman named Abdul Qadeer Sekandari was taken into custody by Taliban‑affiliated personnel, with his current whereabouts unknown, raising fears of enforced disappearances. In Takhār province, families have also raised alarms after a child vanished in the Farhār district, amid unsuccessful local efforts to locate the missing boy.
The recent spate of violent incidents comes amid broader concerns over human rights abuses and arbitrary enforcement practices that have been documented under the Taliban’s administration, including extrajudicial violence and unaccountable detentions reported by human rights groups in recent years.
