The demolition of an Eidgah and an Imambara in Bicholi village, located in the Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh, India, has sparked concern and unease among local Muslim residents.

The structures were demolished by authorities following orders issued by the revenue department. According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nidhi Patel, the land on which the religious sites were built was recorded as government property, and the constructions were deemed unauthorized. A tehsildar court subsequently issued eviction orders, leading to the demolition.

Local residents, however, stated that the sites had been in use for many years and expressed distress over their sudden removal. They said the action has heightened tensions in the area.

A heavy police presence was deployed during the operation, effectively turning the locality into a secured zone.

The incident comes at a time when Sambhal district is already experiencing sensitivities related to land disputes and religious structures, prompting concern from various quarters about the potential for further unrest.
