Syria: Government and SDF Continue Prisoner Exchange Under January Deal

A prisoner swap between Syria’s transitional government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has continued, with both sides releasing detainees under an ongoing agreement aimed at resolving long-standing detentions.

According to local reports, dozens of SDF-linked detainees arrived in Al-Hasakah after being released by government authorities, while the SDF freed 90 prisoners in exchange in Al-Shaddadi.

Officials say the latest phase is part of a broader deal reached in January to exchange up to 400 detainees, with total releases now estimated at around 1,500.

The arrangement follows earlier rounds of releases in March and is part of a wider understanding that also includes a ceasefire framework and steps toward administrative and security coordination between both sides.

Families of detainees continue to report uncertainty over the fate of missing relatives, while both sides maintain that further exchanges are expected as implementation of the agreement continues.
