CAIR Urges U.S. to Demand China Stop Targeting Uyghurs Fasting in Ramadan

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has called on the U.S. State Department to demand that China release Uyghur Muslims allegedly detained for observing the Ramadan and allow the community to observe the month in peace.
The World Uyghur Congress reported, citing Radio Free Asia, that six Uyghur residents from several villages in Hotan Prefecture were detained by police on February 27 for allegedly secretly fasting during Ramadan. Villages affected included Bulaq Chorgey, Bash Chapal, Dul Tugman, and Korgan.
In a statement, CAIR condemned the detentions as part of a broader effort to suppress Uyghur culture, urging both the U.S. government and Muslim-majority nations to press China to end the reported oppression.
