Grand Ayatullah Najafi Stresses Knowledge as Core Mission of Seminary Students

Senior Shiite cleric Grand Ayatollah Bashir al-Najafi has emphasized that the pursuit of religious knowledge must be the foremost priority for seminary students and should be undertaken solely to seek God’s pleasure, free from worldly interests.

His remarks came during a ceremony in which a group of religious students from Iraq and Pakistan were formally adorned with the clerical turban, marking a significant stage in their scholarly path and their transition into greater religious responsibility.

Addressing the gathering, Grand Ayatollah al-Najafi underlined the importance of sincerity and spiritual discipline in religious studies, calling on students to purify their intentions and hearts from resentment and personal ambition. He noted that genuine devotion to learning is essential for attaining divine blessing and success.

The cleric also urged students to maintain consistent study, reading, and review, and to benefit from the experiences of senior scholars who devoted their lives to teaching and spreading religious knowledge in service of the school of Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon them both).

Grand Ayatollah al-Najafi stressed that religious knowledge is a trust and a responsibility before it is a title or status, adding that seminary students are expected to combine moral self-discipline with academic achievement. He concluded by calling on future clerics to serve as role models in conduct as well as in preaching, carrying the message of Islam into all areas of social life.
