Shia Community Commemorate Demise Anniversary of Grand Ayatollah Mirza Mehdi Shirazi
———————————-
Shiite communities around the world on Tuesday marked the 67th anniversary of the passing of Grand Ayatollah Mirza Mahdi al-Husseini al-Shirazi, a prominent religious scholar and father of leading Shiite authority Grand Ayatollah Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi. The anniversary coincides with the 28th of Sha‘ban in the Islamic calendar.

On this occasion, followers recalled the late cleric’s lifelong dedication to Islamic scholarship, religious teaching, and the promotion of the teachings of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), as well as his role in preserving and revitalizing Shiite religious traditions.

Grand Ayatollah Mirza Mahdi al-Shirazi was born in Karbala in mid-Sha‘ban 1304 AH. He grew up in a scholarly environment and pursued his studies under leading religious figures of his time. Following the death of his father, he moved with the Shirazi family to Samarra, where he studied at the seminary established by the first Mirza Shirazi and later continued his education in Najaf.

In 1366 AH, he returned to Karbala to revive its religious seminary and later assumed religious authority. He was the father of several prominent clerics, whose scholarly and religious activities continue to shape Shiite thought and institutions today.
