Oman’s National Quran Donated to Bibliotheca Alexandrina
——————————–
A copy of Oman’s national Quran has been donated to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in the Egyptian city of Alexandria, marking the first time this distinguished edition has been presented to an Egyptian cultural institution.
According to reports by Gulf media, the donation was made by Thomas Milo, the designer of the electronic typefaces used in printing the Omani national Quran, widely known as the Muscat Mushaf and also referred to as the Sultan Qaboos Quran. Milo presented the copy during a visit to the library’s headquarters.
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina described the Muscat Mushaf as a landmark cultural and intellectual project that brings together the sanctity of the Quranic text with the possibilities offered by modern digital transformation. The library said the initiative reflects one of the most important contemporary Arab cultural efforts, helping to revive the status of the Holy Quran alongside the arts of Arabic calligraphy and ornamentation, while presenting them through modern technological tools without compromising scholarly accuracy or visual aesthetics.
The Omani national Quran is distinguished by its interactive format, enabling readers and researchers to navigate chapters and verses with ease, conduct advanced searches, and benefit from a well-structured digital environment suitable for both daily reading and academic study. The library noted that the project demonstrates how technology can serve as a means of preserving and expanding access to religious and cultural heritage while fully respecting its sacred character.
