Grand Ayatullah Shirazi Calls for Strengthening Women’s Institutions and Ensuring Safe Environments

Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini Shirazi has called for greater attention to women’s moral and religious needs and for providing the requirements necessary to advance their social role. His Eminence stressed the importance of creating conditions that safeguard women’s dignity and rights across different spheres of life.
In remarks cited by his office, the Supreme Marja urged the establishment of women-run religious centers, schools, institutes, and dedicated projects to meet women’s legitimate needs and support their educational, cultural, and social empowerment. He also highlighted the need for services such as maternity facilities, childcare centers, elderly care, and other institutions that enable women to fulfill their responsibilities in society. He warned that neglecting these areas has contributed to setbacks for some women, with negative consequences for their religious and worldly lives.
Grand Ayatullah Shirazi referenced Islamic teachings to underline equality between men and women in fundamental duties and rights, noting that differences addressed in jurisprudence are limited compared with shared obligations. He emphasized that women’s workplaces must be safe and free from abuse, harassment, or violations, criticizing contemporary practices that undermine these standards.
He reiterated that women are a cornerstone of a healthy society and that caring for their religious, educational, and social affairs is essential to social reform and stability.
