On the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, an official ceremony was held to sign the charter establishing the Peace Council, under the leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump and in the presence of several heads of state and foreign ministers, several news outlets reported.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Trump said that “there is now peace in the Middle East that no one thought was possible,” adding that the U.S. administration had succeeded in ending eight wars worldwide and that another conflict would end soon. He described the Peace Council as bringing together “the best leaders in the world,” saying it had the potential to become one of the most important international bodies ever created.

Trump stated that 59 countries had taken part in peace efforts in the Middle East, which he said helped reduce threats previously facing Europe and the region compared with the global situation a year earlier. He added that the international community now has a real opportunity to end decades of hatred and bloodshed, stressing the need to ensure effective governance and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

According to the charter, the Peace Council includes provisions for the administration of Gaza through a Palestinian technocratic committee, under direct international supervision. The initiative aims to transform the council into a global organization focused on resolving regional and international conflicts.

In recent days, Trump invited dozens of other world leaders to join the council, saying it would address global challenges beyond the fragile ceasefire in Gaza and would not serve as a replacement for the United Nations. So far, aside from the United States, no other permanent member of the UN Security Council has agreed to join. Trump said permanent members should contribute $1 billion each to fund the council.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia is prepared to contribute $1 billion to the Peace Council to support the Palestinian people, using Russian assets frozen in the United States.
