Drone Attack Kills 27 in Southeast Sudan City

At least 27 people were killed and dozens wounded in a drone attack on the city of Singa, the capital of Sennar state in southeast Sudan, according to military and health sources. The strike was attributed to the Rapid Support Forces and targeted a military installation inside the city, causing casualties among both soldiers and civilians.

Local sources said the drones hit a military base during a meeting of army and security officials. A military source reported that the attack struck the headquarters of the 17th Infantry Division, while a health official confirmed that 73 people were injured. Security sources said a senior government official survived the strike, though several of his aides were killed.

Singa lies about 300 kilometres southeast of Khartoum on a strategic route linking the capital to eastern regions under army control. The attack came a day after the army-aligned government announced its return to Khartoum. Sudan’s war, which began in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and displaced around 11 million people, prompting UN warnings of famine and a severe humanitarian crisis.
