18 Civilians, Including Women and Children, Killed in Syria Since January 2026
……….
Syria has witnessed a surge in violence since the beginning of January 2026, resulting in the deaths of 18 civilians, including women and children, in various incidents across the country. The events reflect ongoing insecurity and the multiple threats facing residents amid a continuing cycle of violence.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the fatalities occurred amid a volatile security environment, including stray gunfire, criminal attacks, sectarian-motivated assaults, explosions from remnants of war, and armed attacks targeting security and military personnel. Residential areas have also been affected by shelling, putting civilians at high risk.
Among the documented casualties, a child was killed by an unexploded ordnance, while a woman succumbed to injuries sustained in shelling in the Al-Jamiliyah neighborhood of Aleppo, reportedly originating from Syrian Ministry of Defense positions. The incidents highlight the persistent dangers faced by non-combatants and the ongoing impact of the conflict on civilian life.
The Observatory urged authorities to take responsibility for civilian protection, ensure thorough investigations into all attacks, and hold perpetrators accountable. It emphasized that continued impunity fuels violence and exacerbates the humanitarian toll on Syria’s population.
