WFP Warns of Worsening Child Malnutrition Crisis in Afghanistan
………..

The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that Afghanistan is facing one of the world’s most severe nutrition emergencies, with more than 3.5 million children under the age of five at risk of acute malnutrition. In a statement issued on Wednesday, December 24, the agency said the number of affected children has risen by about 500,000 compared with last year.

The WFP also reported that around 1.2 million pregnant and breastfeeding women are experiencing serious food insecurity and urgently need nutritional support. The agency noted that women and girls are disproportionately affected by the crisis, as restrictions on their social participation have reduced their access to food and essential services. The WFP said it continues to prioritize female-headed households while delivering emergency assistance nationwide.
