Barham Salih Becomes First Middle Eastern Head of UN Refugee Agency

Barham Salih, the former president of Iraq, has been appointed as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, becoming the first Middle Eastern figure to lead the agency.
According to a report by Sumeria News, Salih was selected from among 12 candidates, most of whom were from Europe. The position, which has traditionally been held by European officials, has for the first time been entrusted to a representative from the Middle East.
