Iran Detains Hundreds of Afghan Migrants in Yazd Amid Increased Deportations

Iranian police detained 755 Afghan migrants in Yazd province over the past week for lacking legal residency documents, Amu TV reported. Yazd police chief Ahmad Negahban said the migrants were arrested while traveling in urban and rural areas and transferred to a temporary holding camp ahead of deportation. Authorities also confiscated three cars and eight motorcycles during the operations.

The crackdown reflects a broader trend of intensified Afghan deportations in Iran, which accelerated following the country’s 12-day conflict with Israel earlier this year. Local officials say Iran now expels roughly 300 Afghan migrants daily. In Khorasan Razavi province, authorities reported that 1.8 million Afghans have been deported through the Dogharoon border crossing so far this year, with numbers stabilizing after peaking during the conflict.
