Pakistan has launched its first international Quran recitation competition in Islamabad, marking a significant cultural milestone for the country.

According to IQNA, the event opened on Monday, November 24, with participants from member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Organized by Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs, the inaugural ceremony took place in the Jinnah Assembly Hall and was attended by Minister Sardar Yousaf.

The competition is structured into six groups, from which two contestants in each group will advance to the next round. Semi-finals are scheduled for Thursday, culminating in the selection of five top reciters. The final stage, held later the same day, will determine the three leading competitors.

Pakistan aims to use the contest to strengthen cultural and spiritual ties across the Muslim world, promote Quranic values of unity and peace, and encourage the younger generation to deepen their engagement with the Holy Quran. The event will conclude with an award ceremony on November 29 at the Muhammad Ali Jinnah International Conference Center.
