Egypt officially opened the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo on Saturday, marking the launch of the world’s largest museum devoted to a single civilization. The ceremony was attended by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and numerous world leaders, in what was described as a new beacon of human heritage.
In a symbolic gesture, President Sisi placed the final piece bearing the word “Egypt” into a miniature model composed of plaques representing participating countries, declaring the museum officially open. The event featured a spectacular light show illuminating the pyramids and highlighting rare Pharaonic artifacts displayed within the museum.
In his address, Sisi said the museum stands as “a living testament to the genius of the Egyptian people and a reflection of their enduring contribution to civilization and peace.” Located near the Giza Pyramids, the museum spans over 300,000 square meters and offers visitors an immersive journey through Egypt’s ancient history.
It houses the complete collection of King Tutankhamun’s treasures, displayed in full for the first time since their discovery in 1922, alongside artifacts from Queen Hetepheres, King Khufu’s solar boats, and pieces dating from pre-dynastic times to the Greco-Roman period. The Grand Egyptian Museum aims to serve as a global cultural hub celebrating Egypt’s timeless legacy.
