Canadian Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne announced on Monday the establishment of a new agency dedicated to combating financial crimes, including fraud, money laundering, and the recovery of illicit assets, Reuters reported.

The move comes as Canada prepares for a November audit by the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (FATF), which will evaluate the country’s mechanisms for preventing and addressing financial crime.
