Remains of 60 Men Found in Northern Mexico Amid Rising Violence
…………….
Authorities in Mexico’s Sonora state have discovered the remains of 60 men in a rural area near the U.S. border, Reuters reported. The state prosecutor’s office said in a statement that the bodies, found in January and February in the capital Hermosillo, belonged to individuals kidnapped during violent disputes between criminal organizations.
Scientific evidence was used to identify all the victims, whose remains have been returned to their families. At least five suspects have been arrested. Sonora has seen escalating violence as rival gangs battle for control of drug and migrant smuggling routes into the United States.
