At least five people were killed and 35 others wounded in a series of explosions in Kabul on Wednesday afternoon, according to EMERGENCY, an international medical organization operating in the Afghan capital, as reported by Amu.

The blasts occurred around 4 p.m. local time, a few kilometers from EMERGENCY’s Surgical Centre. The organization said 40 victims, including women and children, were brought to the hospital with shrapnel wounds, burns, and other injuries, and 10 remain in critical condition.

EMERGENCY’s country director, Dejan Panic, said casualty numbers are still preliminary. While the Taliban attributed the incident to a fuel tanker fire, Pakistan’s state broadcaster PTV reported it was caused by airstrikes carried out by Pakistani forces.
