Nineteen-year-old Iranian weightlifter Alireza Nasiri achieved a silver medal finish at the World Championships last night.

Following the medal ceremony, Nasiri displayed his religious devotion by placing a flag bearing the inscription “Ya Aba al-Fadl al-Abbas” across his shoulders on the winner’s podium, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

The public display of the flag—a sign of reverence for Abbas ibn Ali (peace be upon them both)—was part of his celebration of the victory for himself and the people of Iran.
