Italian Flotilla Captain Embraces Islam Following Israeli Detention

Tommaso Bortolazzi, the Italian captain of the Maria Cristina vessel that was part of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) to Gaza, has announced he has embraced Islam following his release from Israeli detention, Clarion India reported.
Speaking to reporters in Istanbul, Bortolazzi explained that his decision was heavily influenced by his crew, who were predominantly Muslim Turkish citizens. He noted that during the “terrifying moments” of their detention, the crew remained united.
Bortolazzi revealed that the defining moment occurred in prison when Israeli police and soldiers interrupted his friends’ prayers. He felt compelled to stand in opposition to this act, after which he recited the shahadah (the Islamic declaration of faith) with his friends.
He expressed profound joy over his conversion, stating he felt “like being born again,” and hoped free countries would stand against Israel’s actions.
