Afghan Disability Crisis Deepens Amid Economic Hardship
…………..

The ongoing economic crisis in Afghanistan is disproportionately affecting people with disabilities, who face extreme hardship amid rising poverty and unemployment, Amu TV reported. With more than 69% of Afghans struggling with inadequate income, these individuals report living in even more fragile conditions, citing a severe lack of job opportunities, housing security, and basic support.

Many disabled residents describe their lives as ruined by their inability to work. One resident noted he hasn’t been able to pay his rent for nearly three months, while another claimed he has received no aid for 15 years, leading to months of debt just to cover housing costs.

Experts note that Afghanistan is highly unaccommodating for this large population—a legacy of decades of war and disease—with the government failing to build infrastructure and opportunities. Economists suggest people with disabilities could contribute significantly in fields such as handicrafts, carpet weaving, and graphic design if the proper conditions were established. Many feel forgotten as the national economic crisis worsens.
