Minority Group in Gujarat Seeks Probe Into Alleged Torture of Muslim Youths
…………..
The Minority Coordination Committee (MCC) in Gujarat has issued a formal notice to senior officials, including the state’s chief secretary and police chief, demanding urgent action over the alleged torture of Muslim youths in Vadodara. The detentions occurred during Ganesh Visarjan processions on August 26 and 27.
According to the MCC, the youths were publicly humiliated and paraded through alleys while no disciplinary steps were taken against the officers involved, who reportedly justified the acts as “rehabilitation.” MCC coordinator Mujahid Nafees said the incidents represent a serious violation of Article 21 of India’s Constitution, which guarantees the right to life and liberty.
The group has called for punitive and criminal action against the police officers and warned it is prepared to pursue legal remedies if authorities fail to act. Human rights organizations also condemned the alleged abuse, warning it undermines judicial credibility and erodes public trust in citizen protections.
