Partial Solar Eclipse Visible in Southern Hemisphere Today
……………
A partial solar eclipse will occur today, Sunday, September 21, less than two weeks after the total lunar eclipse that captivated much of the Arab world. Astronomers explain that a solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between Earth and the sun, casting a shadow on parts of the planet, while a lunar eclipse occurs when Earth’s shadow falls on the moon. Today’s phenomenon will only be visible in southern regions of the globe, particularly southern Australia, the Pacific Ocean, and Antarctica.
Experts highlight that such celestial events are important for understanding the precise movement of the Earth and moon and are often used to confirm the beginnings and endings of lunar months in the Islamic calendar. In Islamic tradition, the occurrence of a solar eclipse calls for the performance of a special prayer known as Salat al-Ayat, which consists of two cycles with multiple bows and prostrations.
