Islamic Relief Rushes Aid to 100,000 People After Devastating Pakistan Floods
——————————–
Following catastrophic floods that have devastated large regions of Pakistan, the humanitarian organization Islamic Relief has launched a massive aid operation, reaching over 100,000 people in the initial stages of the crisis, the organization’s website reported. The organization was on the ground within the first 48 hours of the disaster to provide immediate life-saving assistance to affected communities.
The floods, triggered by constant heavy monsoon rains, sudden cloudbursts, and dam water releases from India, have submerged over 4,000 villages in Punjab province alone, which has been hit by its worst flooding in decades. Close to 1,000 people have been killed, while more than 6.9 million people across the country have been affected by the disaster.
Islamic Relief has been providing a range of essential relief items, including clean drinking water, food packs, hot meals, temporary shelters, hygiene kits, and newborn baby kits. The organization has also assisted with the evacuation of residents from submerged villages across the Punjab province, working tirelessly to support vulnerable communities and restore a sense of dignity amid the devastation.
Looking ahead, Islamic Relief is preparing to shift its focus from emergency aid to long-term recovery. As thousands of homes and livelihoods have been destroyed, the organization plans to rebuild shelters for displaced families, restore agriculture and livestock chains, ensure safe water and sanitation to prevent disease outbreaks, and rehabilitate damaged infrastructure like roads, schools, and health facilities.
