Iraqi Scholar: Arbaeen March Is a ‘Civilizational Project’
———————————–
An Iraqi academic has described the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage as a “comprehensive civilizational project,” a blueprint for building a unified and values-based society. The statement was reported by IQNA, the International Quran News Agency.
The Arbaeen march is the world’s largest annual religious gathering. Millions of people, mostly Shi’ite Muslims, walk from various cities in Iraq to the holy city of Karbala to commemorate the 40th day after the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), the grandson of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family).
According to the academic, the pilgrimage is more than just a religious ritual. Its immense scale and the collective effort of pilgrims from different backgrounds highlight its potential to foster unity and promote shared human values. The scholar sees the event as a model for creating a society based on these principles.
