Imam of Holy Shrine of Sayyida Zainab Warns of Attacks on Shias

Sheikh Adham Khatib, the Imam of the holy shrine of Sayyida Zainab (peace be upon her), has issued a warning regarding armed assaults, extortion, and the confiscation of homes belonging to Shia residents in the Sayyidah Zainab neighborhood of Damascus.

According to the Shia Waves Agency, citing Al Jazeera, Sheikh Khatib attributed these actions to individuals affiliated with the al-Jolani government. He stressed that these behaviors—which include threats with weapons, insults, and disrespect—violate the rights of Shias.

Sheikh Khatib called on the judicial and security authorities to protect the lives, honor, and property of the Shia community. He noted that these incidents had been previously reported, but no action had been taken. He also emphasized that the government is obligated to provide equal defense to all its citizens.
