Iraq’s Al-Shib border crossing has opened 128 counters to facilitate the entry of Arbaeen pilgrims, with daily arrivals reaching approximately 26,000, officials announced. Of these counters, 118 serve Iranian visitors and 10 cater to Pakistani pilgrims, supported by an electronic visa system to reduce waiting times.

Ahmed Jassim, deputy director of the crossing, said the facilities are fully air-conditioned, with additional cooled waiting areas to ensure pilgrims’ comfort. Security forces maintain strict protection throughout the crossing and along routes to Karbala, employing advanced screening technologies and manual inspections to prevent prohibited items, including drugs.

Most visitors arriving are Iranian, followed by Pakistanis and Afghans. Over 60 service tents inside the crossing provide free food, water, and essential aid in an organized environment. These measures are part of a comprehensive plan by the Border Ports Authority to guarantee smooth, secure, and well-serviced pilgrim entry during the Arbaeen season.
