600-Year-Old Temple Discovered in Wood Storage in Turkey’s Nevşehir
………………
A team of Turkish academics accidentally uncovered a 600-year-old temple carved into rock during field research in Nevşehir province, central Turkey, Anadolu Agency reported. The temple, previously used as a wood storage by locals, was found near the historic Taşken Pasha Mosque and school.
Experts believe the stone temple dates back to the Artuqid Emirate period (1337–1399), reflecting Seljuk-era architectural and decorative styles. The site, previously undocumented in historical records, has remained well-preserved due to its concealment.
This discovery enriches Nevşehir’s cultural heritage, already known for its Islamic and Ottoman monuments, and is expected to attract scholars of ancient Islamic architecture.
