Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization announced it will deploy 350 Moukebs to serve pilgrims during this year’s Arbaeen procession, Abna news agency reported. Moukebs are voluntary service stations providing free food, shelter, and medical aid to pilgrims.
Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mohammad Kazem Mousavi Mottaqi, director general of the organization’s social affairs department, stated that the Awqaf has been officially involved in supporting the Arbaeen pilgrimage since 2014-2015. The Moukebs are categorized into three groups: those along the pilgrimage routes within Iran, border Moukebs at Mehran, Khosravi, and Shalamcheh crossings, and Moukebs established in Iraqi cities such as Najaf, Karbala, Kadhimiya, Samarra, and along the Najaf-Karbala route.
In addition to logistical support, the organization is expanding cultural and Quranic programs at these stations. This year, religious events featuring prominent orators and eulogists will be held not only in Najaf and Samarra but also in Karbala and along the Najaf-Karbala route. Quranic activities include gatherings for recitation and memorization, organized in partnership with the Quranic Committee of the Arbaeen Headquarters.
Arbaeen commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and is the largest annual pilgrimages worldwide. Approximately 4 million Iranians are expected to participate this year, with Arbaeen falling on August 14.
