Commemoration of al-Askari Shrine’s Destruction at Grand Ayatollah Shirazi’s House in Qom

Commemoration of al-Askari Shrine’s Destruction at Grand Ayatollah Shirazi’s House in Qom
———————————
On Saturday, 23 Muharram 1447 AH (July 19), the honourable residence of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husseini al-Shirazi in the holy city of Qom hosted a solemn mourning ceremony marking the anniversary of the 2006 demolition of the al-Askari shrine in Samarra by the extremist Wahabi agents. The ceremony took place alongside the daily scholarly sessions of the Supreme Marja.
The al-Askari Shrine suffered two extremist bombings—first on 22 February 2006 and again on 13 June 2007—inflicted by Takfiri Wahhabi agents aiming to ignite sectarian strife. These attacks, which collapsed the shrine’s golden dome and damaged its minarets, drew universal Shia condemnation and sparked waves of global solidarity with the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
For Shia communities, remembering the shrine’s desecration is both an act of loyalty to the Imam of the Time and a reaffirmation of resistance to religious intolerance.
As a leading marja’, Grand Ayatollah Shirazi has long opened his Qom residence to commemoration ceremonies. During Muharram 1444 AH, for example, his office hosted thirteen consecutive days of mourning for Imam al-Husayn (peace be upon him)—underscoring its role as a hub for reviving the teachings, rituals and the legacy of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
It is worth mentioning that His Eminence has designated the last Friday of the holy Month of Ramadan as the International Day of Support for Imamain Askariyyain (peace be upon them), when large groups of Shia devotees travel to Samera to renew their pledge of allegiance with the Master of the Time, al-Imam al-Hujjat (may Allah hasten his reappearance).
