Today, June 12, Iraq marked the 11th anniversary of the Camp Speicher Massacre, in which ISIS-affiliated militants killed around 2,000 Iraqi Air Force cadets at the Speicher base in Saladin province in June 2014. The incident remains one of the bloodiest massacres in modern Iraqi history.

Across several cities, survivors, families of the victims, and activists held commemorative events, calling on the government to formally enshrine the memory of the martyrs through monuments and educational curricula.

They stressed that justice for the victims—many hailing from predominantly Shia provinces in the south and central regions—requires that the events remain a permanent fixture in the national consciousness.

Official statistics indicate heavy losses, with victims recorded from Dhi Qar (383), Babylon (382), Baghdad (292), and Diyala (252), among others. Observers emphasize that lasting remembrance is essential for preventing the recurrence of such atrocities.
