Shia Muslims converge on Holy Karbala for Arafah Day commemoration
Hundreds of thousands of Shia Muslims from Iraq and abroad are converging on the holy city of Karbala ahead of the Day of Arafah, which falls on the 9th of Thul-Hijjah. Pilgrims from various Iraqi cities, Iran, Gulf countries and other European countries are arriving to recite the special supplication of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and participate in the religious rituals leading up to Eid al-Adha.
The Imam Hussain Holy Shrine announced extensive preparations to receive millions of pilgrims for Arafah Day. The Secretary-General stated that a comprehensive service plan has been launched, including new facilities in Al-Aqeelah Zainab Courtyard, transportation services, and three modern pilgrims’ cities.
Basement areas inside the holy courtyard are also being opened to accommodate the growing number of visitors, as Holy Karbala prepares to host one of the most significant Shia religious occasions. Local authorities have also announced security plans to safeguard the pilgrims during this massive event.
