American writer blames Muslim migrants for Europe’s ‘Cultural Decline’
American writer Lars Müller has sparked widespread controversy after an article he wrote for American Thinker leveled racist accusations at Muslim migrants in Europe. He argued that the “Old Continent” is headed for “cultural suicide” because of their growing numbers and claimed they are “stripping Europe of its identity and pride.”
Müller wrote that “the West is behaving like happy fools, as if we have forgotten who we are and who the Muslims are,” adding: “We have invited our historical oppressors and tormentors into the remnants of the Christian Roman Empire, allowed them to multiply, and to rule over us. If we think things are different today, we are mistaken.”
He branded Europeans “happy idiots,” ignoring the complex history between Europe and the Islamic world and overlooking the economic, social and cultural contributions Muslim migrants make to European societies. Using incendiary language, Müller alleged that Muslim newcomers “exploit Western Europe’s democratic mechanisms,” claiming they seek local self-rule and demand special treatment for their religious customs.
His remarks come amid a rise in anti-immigrant rhetoric across Europe and recent electoral gains for far-right parties. In response, the European Commission has proposed tougher migration policies, including off-shore detention centers for irregular migrants—a move that has drawn sharp criticism from human-rights groups.
Although migration to Europe—particularly from Muslim-majority countries—has increased since conflicts erupted in the Middle East, rights organizations and EU integration bodies continue to condemn the use of this phenomenon to justify racist discourse.
