Muslim Board Mobilizes Nationwide Protests Against Waqf Act Amendments

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has reignited its campaign against the recent amendments to the Waqf Act, organizing a roundtable meeting in Hyderabad with political leaders, scholars, and civil society representatives, the Clarion reported. Claiming the law unfairly targets the Muslim minority, AIMPLB announced plans for large-scale protests across India.
Dr. SQR Ilyas, AIMPLB national spokesperson, detailed a schedule of significant public gatherings: Telangana will see events in Hyderabad (100,000 women on May 22), Warangal (May 20), and Nizamabad (May 30). Maharashtra’s planned protests include Jalgaon (70,000–80,000 on May 23), a multi-faith event in Nanded (May 24), and a massive gathering in Aurangabad expected to exceed 200,000 attendees on May 25. Bihar will host multiple events in cities such as Patna and Kishanganj.
Additional programs are underway in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and West Bengal. Dr. Ilyas emphasized the campaign’s goal to raise awareness about the government’s alleged discriminatory intent and hopes for Supreme Court intervention in the May 20 hearing.
