WFP Assists 9 Million Afghans, Urges Immediate Funding for Aid Programs

The World Food Programme (WFP) reported providing life-saving assistance to over 9 million people in Afghanistan last year, emphasizing the urgent need for continued funding, Khaama Press reported. WFP’s ongoing efforts aim to address the humanitarian needs of the Afghan population, with a focus on listening to their voices to improve aid delivery.

Despite these efforts, the WFP warns of potential disruptions to critical programs due to funding shortfalls. The organization urgently requires $555 million to sustain its activities over the next six months. Without this support, essential programs, including emergency food aid, nutrition treatment, and vocational training for women, are at risk.

Among the most vulnerable are 1.2 million pregnant and breastfeeding women suffering from malnutrition, highlighting the need for immediate intervention. Currently, one-third of Afghanistan’s population relies on emergency food assistance to survive, reflecting the country’s ongoing food insecurity crisis.

The WFP’s call for financial support is crucial to alleviate hunger and combat the long-term effects of malnutrition. As the situation remains critical, the organization urges international donors to contribute to sustaining life-saving programs in Afghanistan.
