Renewed Clashes in Sudan Lead to Rising Casualties, Humanitarian Crisis

On September 21, renewed clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in El Fasher, North Darfur, resulted in at least 11 deaths, including three children, and left 17 others injured, according to the Sudanese Doctors Network. The organization warned that the escalating violence, which has intensified since May, threatens to create a humanitarian disaster, urging an end to indiscriminate shelling and blockades affecting over 1 million residents, many of whom are displaced.

In a separate incident in Omdurman, north of Khartoum, four people, including two children, were killed in an RSF artillery attack on residential areas. The ongoing conflict, which began on April 15, 2023, has claimed over 16,650 lives and displaced millions.

The ALPS Group, comprising Saudi Arabia, the US, and the UN, has called for humanitarian access to famine-hit areas, emphasizing the urgent need for aid delivery. They welcomed the opening of Kassala and Dongola airports for humanitarian flights but urged both warring parties to cease attacks on civilians and allow unhindered access for aid efforts.
