Australian Scientist Develops Quick Cancer Screening Test
An Australian genomics researcher, Stefan Mazy, has created a groundbreaking cancer screening test called the DermR Patch, which could revolutionize skin cancer diagnosis, Anadolu Agency reported.
This innovative test, developed with a team of four, utilizes microneedles to painlessly collect tissue samples in just 15 seconds, offering a potential alternative to traditional biopsies.
The microneedles, less than a millimeter long, penetrate the skin to gather micro amounts of tissue. The entire process takes under a minute.
Initial clinical trials conducted in Western Australia’s Pilbara region in May have shown promising early results, with a larger trial expected within the next six to 12 months. Mazy believes this technology could save thousands of lives by enabling quicker and easier cancer detection.
