India Kicks Off Third Phase of Mega General Elections

Voting began across India on Tuesday for the third phase of the country’s mammoth general elections. Approximately 172.4 million eligible voters will cast their ballots for 93 parliamentary constituencies spanning 11 states and union territories.

The month-long elections, which began on April 19, will elect all 543 members of India’s lower house of parliament, known as the Lok Sabha.

Over 1,300 candidates are contesting in this phase, and vote counting is scheduled for June 4.

This election is primarily a battle between Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and the opposition alliance INDIA, headed by the Indian National Congress party.
