Turkey is hosting the 5th International Conference on the Culture of Critique and Tolerance in Islamic Thought, bringing together scholars and researchers from various countries to explore the role of constructive critique and scholarly dialogue within the Islamic world.
The event is taking place from May 11 to 13, 2026, at the Faculty of Theology at Alep Arslan University, Turkey. The organizers have emphasized that the primary goal of this conference is to strengthen dialogue, tolerance, and scientific perspectives in addressing contemporary issues.
The conference will focus on exploring the intellectual capacities of Islamic civilization to address modern-day challenges.
According to reports from Turkish academic media outlets, including Muş Alparslan University and the Islamic Sciences Research Foundation, this conference is a continuation of a series of meetings held over the past years, with four previous sessions already taking place.
In the past editions, hundreds of scholarly papers were presented on topics such as jurisprudence (fiqh), hadith, and exegesis (tafsir), with discussions addressing issues like the ethics of critique, avoiding exclusivist viewpoints, and the importance of dialogue in the academic space.
The organizers emphasize that the overarching goal of these sessions is to create a platform for scholarly dialogue among thinkers and to offer solutions for promoting a culture of critique and tolerance within the Islamic world.
