Turkey Exports 75 Million Flowers for International Women’s Day

Turkey celebrated International Women’s Day by exporting 75 million flowers to 34 countries, marking a 10% increase from the previous year, Khaama Press reported. The exports, valued at $9 million, were aimed at conveying appreciation for women worldwide.
Ismail Yılmaz, Chairman of the Association of Exporters of Plants and Ornamental Products, noted a rise in demand for flowers this year. Major importers included the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, and Russia.
Yılmaz highlighted that 80% of the workforce in this industry comprises women, emphasizing their vital role in picking, packaging, and sending these flowers globally.
The flower cultivation sector in Turkey has grown significantly, with greenhouse areas expanding from 4,000 hectares in 1990 to approximately 60,000 hectares today, primarily along the Mediterranean coast. In 2024, Turkey exported flowers worth $141 million to 80 countries, showcasing its thriving agricultural industry and the essential contributions of women.
