The European Union Council issued Monday a statement strongly condemning the ongoing conflict in Sudan, which has caused thousands of deaths and severe suffering over the past two years, Africa24TV reported. The EU expressed deep concern over Sudan’s unity, stability, and territorial integrity, warning that growing political and ethnic divisions, along with competing governing bodies, risk further fragmenting the country. The Council firmly rejected any attempts to partition Sudan.

According to the statement, the EU holds both the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) responsible for ending the violence and urged all parties to engage constructively in peace negotiations. The bloc’s key demands include an immediate ceasefire, unrestricted humanitarian access, protection of civilians, and a credible path toward inclusive civilian governance.

The EU also called for restoring the rule of law, ensuring accountability, and upholding international humanitarian and human rights laws. It pledged to strengthen its engagement if credible progress is made and reaffirmed its readiness to use diplomatic and policy tools, including targeted sanctions, to help secure peace. The EU reiterated its commitment to supporting Sudan’s unity, democracy, and long-term stability.
